Teaching Positive Connections

We are a mental health and wellbeing service for children that is dedicated to embedding trauma informed, attachment aware approaches into schools and foster care.

Supporting children’s wellbeing and mental health

Children are struggling with their mental health and wellbeing now more than ever. In fact, research suggests that the numbers of children in need of support have increased by 50% in the last three years*. Children are finding it hard to concentrate, cope with challenges, navigate friendships and manage their emotions and adults are often left feeling deskilled and disempowered because they don’t know what to do.

We know that children are often navigating challenges in their lives, from trauma and adversity to overuse of technology and poor sleep, and these factors have a huge impact on their sense of wellbeing and overall emotional and mental health. This then affects how they show up in the world at home and in school.

We believe every adult should be trauma informed and attachment aware and should understand essential neuroscience so that they can truly guide and support the children around them.

We all have the potential to help raise children’s self-awareness, emotional intelligence and self-belief and we can all contribute to supporting their mental health and wellbeing.

Our mission is to help show you how!

Some ways we help

Everything we do is designed to have a tangible impact and significant outcome for children

Therapeutic intervention

Our therapeutic interventions give children and young people the opportunity to express difficult experiences and emotions in an age appropriate, safe way with our amazing therapists.

Train everyone in school

Create a culture where all teachers are confident at recognising the signs that children are struggling, and know how to respond.

Embed trauma informed approaches

Embed approaches throughout the school to ensure you are meeting the needs of every child, especially those suffering with ACES, Childhood trauma and insecure attachment.

Support emotional and mental health

Create an environment where children are taught to understand their own mental health and are given the tools they need to flourish in the world.

“Last year we signed up for the whole staff TPC online training units. Our whole school SEMH  has dropped by 50%, the classrooms are calmer and so are staff. We have seen a drop in behaviour incidents. So a huge thank you for the inspiration and CPD.”

Foster agency wrap around package

Our wrap around packages support managers, SSW and foster carers and aim to help keep carers and children connected, even when things are tricky! We upskill staff and carers to work from in a trauma informed, therapeutic way so they feel prepared, supported and empowered to respond to a child’s trauma response and guide children when they need it most.

Therapeutic support

We have been supporting schools, care agencies and local authorities for over 12 years with our therapeutic interventions. We are proud of our reputation in the field and of our amazing therapy team and we always aim to provide a service based on care and connection and at the highest possible standard. If you are looking for therapy for a child you know, or wondering whether therapy is right please contact our referrals team who are always happy to help.
Therapists across the UK

Our team of creative therapists are all over the UK and offer a range of therapies for children and young people. Whether it is creative therapy, play therapy, counselling, drama or art, our therapists can help!

Child directed

We specialise in creative, child directed therapies that allow children and young people to explore their feelings, experiences and emotions in a way that suits them best. They lead and we follow, helping them make sense of things along the way.

Quality assurance

We quality assess every therapist that works with us and carry out regular checks to ensure they are getting regular supervision, have a current CRB and the relevant insurances. We work closely with our therapists, offer ongoing CPD and regular check in’s alongside their clinical supervision.

I have found the staff at TPC to be very accommodating and approachable an nothing is too much trouble for them. Most importantly the children and families I work with have really good relationships with the therapists and find the support to be invaluable.
